Music at Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral

“Nothing so arouses the soul, gives it wing, lifts it from the earth, teaches it to love wisdom, as concordant melody and sacred song composed in rhythm.”

— St. John Chrysostom (On Psalm 41

At Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral, music is a key part of our worship of God. Singing together expresses our faith, and shows the tangible communion of all believers. To this end, the choir of Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral leads the community in prayer and provides beautiful music each week that uplifts and edifies. Drawing on the different musical traditions found in world Orthodoxy, from the sonorous choral tradition of the Slavic lands, to chants of the Byzantine East, to the riches of the Western Church, the choir of Holy Trinity strives to give the best it can to God as an offering of love and as a visible sign of the unity in diversity of the Church.

We express our thankfulness, praise, and worship in the singing of sacred music. Whether in joy of a feast or in the bright sorrow of the penitential seasons, when we sing our lives are transformed, our voices united, our zeal increased, and our Lord Jesus Christ is present together with his angels and his saints.
